ASTA is pleased to announce that Dr. Mark Davidson, Acting Deputy Administrator of USDA APHIS, will provide his views on the current and future directions in APHIS and the international regulatory community for seed phytosanitary that will include remarks on molecular seed health testing and the systems approach. In addition, Dr. Ron Walcott, Vice Provost for Graduate Education at the University of Georgia, will provide an academic perspective on the current and future technology needs for addressing and resolving phytosanitary issues that disrupt seed trade. Nathan Miller, APHIS’s new Seed Health Coordinator, will discuss his new role and approaches for moving forward with the seed industry on key issues. Dr. Scott Heuchelin, Corteva Agriscience, will lead a discussion on new challenges in the seed industry for establishing and maintaining pest free places of production and pest free areas. Several reports will be presented on key meetings (phytosanitary, seed health and systems approach) that will have occurred during the recent ISF seed congress in Barcelona.
