Emerging diseases include those of foreign origins that pose threats to vegetable and flower seed production if they are introduced and become established as well as existing pathogens including new strains that may be introduced into new production areas. The Emerging Diseases Subcommittee agenda will include a presentation on a new working group being formed, the Emerging Viruses of Cucurbits WG, to address issues with many viruses that are changing their distributions and virology in response to climate change and other factors. Presentations will also be made on emerging disease threats in the Pacific Northwest as well as emerging exotic vegetable seed pathogens that are on the radar screen of USDA APHIS.
