Speaker Bio
My name is Yazan Hajjar, and I am currently pursuing a degree in Plant Genetics, Breeding, and Biotechnology at Purdue University, with an anticipated graduation in May 2027.

My academic interests focus on plant breeding and genetics, especially in vegetable crops. I have gained hands-on experience through coursework and research exposure in areas such as PCR, DNA extraction, and field-based phenotyping, including work evaluating drought tolerance in wheat.

For summer 2026, I will be working as a Vegetable Seed Intern with Bayer in San Juan Bautista, California, where I will be involved in field trials, data collection, and supporting breeding operations.

Outside of academics, I enjoy staying active through soccer and going to the gym. I’m also a big fan of Formula 1 and support Scuderia Ferrari. I like keeping up with new innovations in agriculture and plant science, and I enjoy working in team environments, whether that’s in the lab or out in the field.

My interest in the seed industry started at a young age. My father owns an agricultural company in Lebanon, and I began working with him when I was 14. I spent time visiting trial stations, observing different varieties, and tasting fruits and vegetables, which was honestly what first got me interested. Over time, that experience gave me a real understanding of how variety development impacts both growers and consumers, and it pushed me to pursue a career in plant breeding.
