Speaker Bio
Vipul Kumar is a Plant Breeding PhD student in the Department of Horticulture at Iowa State University, where his research focuses on adaptive traits such as summer dormancy and freezing tolerance in Sandberg Bluegrass to support the development of resilient perennial ground cover systems. He is expected to graduate in May 2027. Originally from India, Vipul’s interest in agriculture started during his undergraduate studies through hands-on crop production, where managing crops from seed to seed sparked his curiosity about how much impact a single seed can have. That curiosity grew into a deeper passion during his graduate training, as he began to see how seed innovation plays a key role in addressing challenges like sustainability and food security. He is particularly interested in bridging research with real-world applications and hopes to build a career in the seed industry. Outside of work, Vipul enjoys working out in the gym and playing sports.
