Yue has loved gardening since childhood, which naturally led to a passion for agriculture. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Agronomy and a master’s degree in Horticulture. Fascinated by how agriculture shapes human history and remains vital in the modern era, she believes seeds are the foundation of agricultural progress—offering the greatest potential for adaptation, innovation, and long-term sustainability. Through her work , Yue aims to help shorten breeding cycles, increase efficiency, and contribute to the continued advancement of the seed industry.
Yue’s research focuses on improving maize doubled haploid (DH) technology by identifying the gene(s) underlying a major QTL, qshgd1, which causes spontaneous haploid genome doubling (SHGD) in the A427 maize line. The application of this trait could potentially eliminate the need for toxic genome-doubling reagents and significantly reduce the cost of DH technology in maize breeding, while increasing the doubling rate by more than twofold.
