PLDC  Webinar Technology & Security

ASTA's PLDC Virtual online sessions operate on a Zoom webinar platform. The webinar platform is not the same as a Zoom Meetings platform, which is used for interactive events. All Zoom platforms have recently been enhanced with new GCM data encryption, deployed as of May 30, 2020. In our webinar platform, chat functions are disabled and participants are automatically muted and video disabled to prevent uninvited guests. In April 2020, Zoom added new security enhancements requiring a meeting password for entry to all events, removing the meeting ID from the header of each meeting (to prevent screen shots of meetings appearing on social media) and enabling the host to "allow" visitors into the meeting and "lock" the meeting once everyone has arrived. Further, ASTA's PLDC Virtual event requires an ASTA registration to enter the event, and the ASTA team reviews the list of registrants prior to the start of any webinar as an added layer of security.
