Ruojing studied Plant Ecology with her Ph. D degree in the University of Saskatchewan. When Ruojing completed a post-doctorate fellowship in the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and short employment in Syngenta, she joined the Seed Science and Technology Section, Saskatoon Laboratory, Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) in 2006.
Currently, Ruojing is a research scientist and the curator of the National Seed herbarium, leading research projects with innovations in delivering high-impacted research outcomes, and establishing wide research collaborations nationally and internationally. In addition to her peer-reviewed scientific publications, she also led a team and developed the first interactive web-based tool for seed identification and seed morphology in Canada. The reference resource provided daily support for the seed testing industry worldwide. Currently, her research team is working on digital imaging and artificial intelligence for testing automation, especially for weed seed identification with an interdisciplinary research team.
Ruojing manages the National Seed Herbarium with close to 25, 000 reference specimens, which provides services nationally to the seed testing industry. She also leads international working groups or technical committees in the knowledge sharing and the development of digital tools and in setting international seed testing rules.
