Speaker Bio
Pam Johnson is a sixth-generation farmer who works with her husband, their two sons and their young families to produce corn and soybeans in northern Iowa.
Johnson has served as a volunteer leader in many commodity groups over the course of her career and is a leading advocate for agriculture and rural economic development issues on the local, state, national and international levels.
Johnson currently serves as a director of MAIZALL, the international maize alliance of the corn grower associations in Argentina (Maizar), Brazil (Abramilho) and the United States (the National Corn Growers Association). She was a founding member and served as president of MAIZALL in 2017/18. She is also former Vice President of the Foundation for Food and Agricultural Research (FFAR) and a past director of the National Coalition for Food and Agriculture Research (NC-FAR).
Elected by her peers, Johnson served in 2012/2013 as president of the National Corn Growers Association, a farmer-led trade association with offices in St. Louis and Washington, D.C. During this tenure, she focused on the passage of the 2014 farm bill and advocacy for public and private support of agricultural research. As chair of the NCGA Research and Business Development Action Team, she worked in partnership with the USDA and the National Science Foundation to facilitate the final mapping of the corn genome, a breakthrough that will lead to improved traits for farmers.
In her home state, Johnson served as chair of the Iowa Corn Promotion Board and a director of the Iowa Corn Growers Association. She also served as president of Iowa Corn Opportunities, an equity fund organized by the Iowa Corn Growers Association, and was an Iowa Corn delegate on the U.S. Grains Council’s Biotech and Trade Policy A-Teams.
