This forward-looking session explores the evolving landscape of field crop production, spotlighting both emerging threats and innovative strategies. Jessica Blake, SSC Seed Quality Lab Manager, will delve into the rising incidence of Fusarium in rye seeds and its implications for using rye in rotation systems. Attendees will also learn from Dr. Silvina Arias, Adjunct Assistant Professor of Seed Pathology, about innovate approaches to maximize productivity by integrating cover crops alongside cash crops for sustainable intensification of existing lands. Finally, the session will provide an update from research scientist Jeffrey Williams on current efforts to improve testing methods for Goss’s Wilt, a persistent bacterial challenge in international shipments of corn seed.
